My Echo In Your Soul Story

I’m 52 years old. I’ll be 53 soon.

If you would have asked me when I was 15 years old what I wanted to do with my life, I wouldn’t have hesitated.

I wanted to be a financial advisor. But I also fell in love with songwriting after I wrote my first song called “That Day” inspired by a conversation with my dad. He told me the doctor said my mom may not see me graduate from High School. She had ovarian cancer. I will never forget that day. That day, I fell in love with songwriting and haven’t stopped since. I must have somewhere over 500 songs in old notebooks, in the notes on my phone, or Word file pages in my computer. Many of them half written. Many of them the melodies forgotten. But all of them were important to shaping who I am today.  In expressing my thoughts through music. In helping me get through all the ups and downs.

Songwriting has always been my go to when times got tough. There has always been this Echo In My Soul to express my self through music. I love writing. It’s always been about that feeling you get when a song says something your heart has been trying to say for years. I knew even then that music had a way of reaching places conversations never could.

Life, however, has a way of taking us down roads we never planned.

There were careers to build. A family to raise. Responsibilities that mattered. Seasons of incredible joy and seasons of heartbreaking loss. Moments that made me question who I was and where I was going.

Along the way I built a wealth management firm that I’m incredibly proud of. Every day I have the privilege of helping people make wise financial decisions and build lives filled with meaning instead of just money. I host a podcast because I believe our decisions shape the direction of our lives. I wrote a book because I wanted to help people think differently about what it really means to live a rich life.

Those things are part of who I am.

But they were never the whole story.

There was always another voice.

A quieter one.

The one I tried to ignore because life was busy.

The one that kept whispering that there was still music left in me.

That’s really what The Echo In Your Soul is about.

It’s about realizing that no matter how successful you become, no matter how much you accomplish, there is still an echo inside you calling you toward the life you were created to live.

Sometimes that echo asks the biggest question of all…

“What kind of life do you really want?”

Sometimes it reminds you that comparison will steal your joy if you let it.

Sometimes it tells you you’re still figuring it out—and that’s okay.

Sometimes it forces you to face the holes you’ve been trying to fill with achievement, busyness, or approval.

Sometimes it reminds you there is still something alive inside you, even after loss.

Sometimes it points you back to those pivotal moments that quietly changed everything.

And sometimes…

it simply asks you to keep going when the obstacles feel overwhelming.

If I’m honest, being an independent artist at 52 is not easy. You pour your heart into songs and hope people connect with them, hope people share them but sometimes you wonder if anyone cares or is even listening. First and foremost I’m writing music again for myself. Because there’s an echo in my soul that is telling me that I’m not done yet.

There isn’t a record label.

There isn’t a marketing team.

There isn’t a producer making all the decisions.

It’s just me.

Writing.

Recording.

Learning Logic Pro.

Producing.

Mixing.

Mastering.

Designing artwork.

Creating videos.

Sending emails.

Submitting songs to playlists.

Booking shows.

Wondering if anyone is listening.

Wondering if the algorithm even knows I exist.

There are days I question whether I’m crazy for trying.

Whether people will dismiss me because of my age.

Whether independent music can still find its audience.

Whether all these hours will ever become something bigger than streams on a screen.

But then I remember something.

Every meaningful thing I’ve ever done started with uncertainty.

Nobody hands you permission to chase what matters.

You simply decide that the work itself is worth doing.

If one song helps someone who feels lost…

If one lyric reminds someone there is still hope…

If one person decides to stop drifting and start living intentionally…

Then every late night in the studio was worth it. Every time I got up at 3am to work on a song mix was worth it.

I don’t know where these songs will ultimately go.

Maybe they’ll reach thousands.

Maybe they’ll reach millions.

I honestly don’t know.

What I do know is this:

For the first time in a long time, I’m living in alignment with the echo I’ve heard since I was a teenager.

And there is peace in that.

This album isn’t really about me.

It’s about anyone who’s ever wondered if it’s too late.

Anyone who’s ever started over.

Anyone who’s buried dreams because life demanded something different.

Anyone who’s looked successful on the outside while quietly asking bigger questions on the inside.

Anyone who’s faced obstacles that made them want to quit.

The Echo In Your Soul is simply an invitation to listen again.

Maybe there is still something in you waiting to be shared.

Maybe there is still a dream worth chasing.

Maybe there is still forgiveness waiting to happen.

Maybe there is still a life you haven’t fully lived.

I’m not trying to prove anything anymore.

I’m simply trying to be faithful to the gift that was planted in a 15-year-old kid with a guitar.

If these songs encourage even one person to believe that purpose doesn’t expire with age…

that setbacks don’t define your future…

that obstacles can become the very thing that shapes your story…then this journey has already been a success.

Because sometimes the greatest measure of success isn’t how many people hear your voice.

It’s whether you had the courage to finally listen to your own.

There’s an echo in your soul. The chorus lyrics of the song are not tattooed on my inner left arm around the first tattoo that I ever got. It is the Chinese symbol for “SONG.” The chorus lyrics are:

“ There’s an echo in your soul

Calling you to this place

Every time you turn away

It finds you anyway

There’s a feeling in your bones

About to start a fire inside

Don’t be scared of the unknown

Let it break you open

That echo in your soul”

I’ve spent most of my life hearing it. Now I’m not just listening, I’m following it again. Hope you will download the album and share it with your people.

With personal passion,

Brian David
