The Big Life Question: Is the Life You’re Living Actually the Life You Want?
There’s a question most of us spend years avoiding:
Is this actually the life I want?
Not whether your life looks successful. Not whether other people think you should be happy. Not whether you’ve checked enough boxes.
But whether the life you’re living feels like yours.
That question became the heart of “The Big Life Question.”
There are seasons when life becomes a series of responsibilities. Work. Kids. Bills. Relationships. Schedules. Expectations. You get so busy managing your life that you rarely stop long enough to ask whether the direction you’re heading still makes sense.
And the dangerous thing about drifting is that it rarely feels like drifting.
It feels like being responsible.
You can build a career, raise a family, buy the house, accumulate things, and accomplish goals—and still have a quiet voice inside asking, “Is this it?”
I don’t think that question means you’re ungrateful.
I think it means you’re awake.
For me, this song isn’t about blowing up your life in pursuit of some fantasy. It’s about having the courage to examine it.
What matters now?
What used to matter but doesn’t anymore?
What are you doing because you genuinely want to—and what are you doing because somewhere along the way you decided you were supposed to?
Maybe the big life question isn’t, “Have I succeeded?”
Maybe it’s:
“Am I becoming the person I actually want to be?”
And maybe we shouldn’t wait for retirement, loss, illness, an empty nest, or some other major life event before we finally ask it.
Your Turn
If you stripped away everyone else’s expectations, what would you want the next chapter of your life to look like?
Write your answer down. Don’t edit it. Don’t worry about whether it’s practical yet.
Just tell yourself the truth.
